Rowena Scott,,Rowena Scott,

We do all we can to help pupils, teachers and adult learners feel welcome and familiar with the facilities available. You may already have met some of the staff. Here's your chance to find out more about what they do at the CLC and what they have done in their past careers that makes them exactly the right people for the job.

John Sibbald
Manager

CLC Manager John has a degree in Computer Science and experience of how (and how not!) to provide theatre performances and workshops to the young people of Toxteth with ’The Spark’ theatre collective. After a teacher training course he taught in Manchester for over 12 years, establishing the ICT department at Abraham Moss High School. After a school fire in 1997, he and the team started all over again!

Following the successful bid for a City Learning Centre @ Abraham Moss, John realised how much he would like to work in such a dynamic and exciting environment. Whilst working at the CLC he has met a wide variety of educationalists from across Manchester.

In his own words: "I firmly believe the CLC will be a place where teachers from across our partnership can come together and learn from each other. Our aim is to provide a learning experience where teachers and learners can try out new ideas. I enjoy a challenge, so, whenever I get the chance, I find a hill to climb - anything over 2,000 ft!"

Mo (Mohammed) Patel
Systems Manager

An invaluable member of the CLC team, Mo has a varied background in both ICT and as a teaching assistant. He has worked for companies including Olivetti - who provide IT services to Barclays Bank, WH Smith and Halifax Building Society - and Micromass, a market leader in the manufacture of clinical instruments.

After three years with Micromass Mo decided to join Manchester City Council SRB so that he could work with people in the community. It was there that he heard about the City Learning Centre project and was very interested to join a team that would be helping to develop such an exciting new technology venue.

More words from Mo himself:

"My job at the CLC combines the two things I enjoy most, technology and working with people. I also like the idea of giving something back to the community. When I'm not at work, you'll probably find me dancing Salsa!"

Sue Wynne
CLC Secondary Teacher

Sue comes from a creative background and she has a degree in Photography and Film.  Her final year documentary assisgment on female wrestlers won first prize in a film festival.  She has taught Art for several years both in schools and within the community and more recently has been Head of Art at Abraham Moss High School.  During this time she has been a key figure in initiating new and groundbreaking projects and has enabled the students to exhibit their work at prestigious venues such as Cornerhouse and Urbis, even appearing on Channel M.  Over the last few years Sue has become increasingly involved in New Media and the exciting opportunities that the CLC offers.

Sue says, "Coming from a non-IT specialist background I enjoy the creativity and energy that is generated using ICT.  I relate to other people who are excited by innovative technology and the opportunities it offers to realise ideas without being an ICT know-all.  The CLC is the perfect space for children and adults to be enthused giving them the freedom to think outside the box.  When I'm not working you can find me whizzing around the Velodrome, throwing myself off a mountain or practising the art of Aikido!"
